How do I benefit from Visa® Secure?
Visa Secure provides an added layer of protection that prevents the unauthorized use of your Potomac Bank Visa Debit Card when shopping online. This helps us ensure it’s really you making the purchase and, most importantly, helps protect you from fraud.
Does Visa Secure also work when making purchases in stores and in person?
No. Visa Secure is only available for online purchases.
Does using Visa Secure cost me anything?
No, there are no costs associated with this service.
Do I need to download anything to use Visa Secure?
No, there is nothing to download or install. Simply use your Debit Card as usual for online purchases.
When I am shopping online and see the Visa Secure badge, what does this mean?
The Visa Secure badge indicates that merchant is using this update to help prevent fraud, so you may receive a verification code when making an online purchase with them. However, each merchant’s agreement with Visa is different and not all will activate a verification code.
Do I need a new Potomac Bank Visa® Debit Card to use this service?
No. It is already active on your Potomac Bank Debit Card. There is nothing to download or install.
How will I know if my online purchase has this added layer of protection?
The Visa Secure service automatically works at checkout. There is no need to download anything, install software, or register for your account to include this added layer of protection. When using this service, you may occasionally be prompted during checkout to verify your identity. This is to ensure it’s really you and protect you from fraud.
If I am prompted for the extra verification step, what should I do?
The extra verification prompt requests that you receive a one-time passcode by email, SMS (Text) message, or phone call. If you encounter this extra step, simply follow the instructions on your screen to verify your identity.
I received a text prompt to enter the verification code. However, I am not making a purchase online (or where the card is not present). What should I do?
Do not respond to the code. If you receive a verification code you did not request, do not share it with anyone. It may be a fraudster attempting to access your account.
I’m worried that there may be an unauthorized transaction on my account. What should I do?
