Our story continues with a new name - Potomac Bank.
We have not been sold and are not preparing for a merger nor to be sold. It is strictly a new name.
On November 3, 2025, Bank of Charles Town (BCT), also known as The Community’s Bank, was proudly renamed Potomac Bank!
BACKGROUND
In 1994, the Board of Directors formed our holding company and named it Potomac Bancshares in anticipation of growing beyond Charles Town and throughout the Potomac River region. Their foresight has been realized, and being renamed Potomac Bank aligns with their vision.
This is a celebration of who we’ve grown to be. Since our founding in 1871, our roots have run deep in Charles Town, and over the generations those roots have extended into neighboring communities across the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, Washington County, Maryland, and Northern Virginia. Each community is distinct, yet all are connected by one powerful, symbolic force – the Potomac River – which has long shaped the geography, history, and prosperity of our region.
HISTORIC STORY CONTINUES
You’ll notice “Potomac Bank” on signage and other items as you visit our offices, website, online banking, and other communications channels. The experience you have come to trust will remain completely the same: the same friendly faces at your branch, the same responsive service and local decision making, and the same commitment to your community. Our leadership is unchanged. Our local ownership and Board of Directors remain consistent. Our values are intact. And our commitment to neighbors is deeper than ever.
We are proud to be locally owned and even more proud that we have clients who are shareholders, too. The Company's shares are quoted on the OTC marketplace under the ticker symbol “PTBS”.
We’re incredibly excited about this next chapter and hope you are, too. Below are a few Questions & Answers that may be helpful. And feel free to email or call me with any other questions. My contact information is below.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership. We look forward to continuing to serve you as Potomac Bank – always rooted in community.
With excitement and gratitude,

Questions & Answers - BCT to Be Named Potomac Bank, Effective November 3, 2025
Is renaming Bank of Charles Town to Potomac Bank a result of the bank being sold or in preparation of a merger?
No. This is a celebration of who we’ve become and reflects the vision of our Board of Directors over 30 years ago when they formed our holding company, naming it Potomac Bancshares in anticipation of the growth we’ve achieved today. The new name, Potomac Bank, will have a direct branding association with the holding company.
Why “Potomac Bank”?
In addition to being aligned with our holding company, Potomac Bancshares, renaming the bank to Potomac Bank reflects our branch network’s locations along the Potomac River region. Today, and as we grow, the name “Potomac Bank” will unify the markets we serve throughout the Potomac River region.
What will happen to BCT’s rich history and culture?
We remain fully committed to our heritage and our culture. This is not a deviation from who we are – it’s a celebration of our story that’s been unfolding for more than 154 years. We will proudly retain our logo with the turquoise tree with our founding date of 1871 at its roots, providing a constant reminder that our company is built on our rich history and heritage. To learn more about our rich history since 1871, visit About Us.
Will my accounts and services be changed?
No. This is strictly a renaming. Everything else remains the same. Client accounts and services remain the same. There will be no changes to your account number or your access to Online or Mobile Banking.
Do I continue using my BCT Debit Card and checks?
Yes. You may continue to use your BCT Debit Card and BCT check stock. When your card expires and/or you reorder checks, you’ll be issued a card and/or checks with the new Potomac Bank logo.
Will Bill Pay change, requiring me to set up payees and payments, again?
No. Bill Pay and all of our Online Banking services remain unchanged. Your existing payees will remain available and payments will continue as usual.
Will there be new branding of the bank?
No. We will proudly retain our logo with the tree having our founding date of 1871 at its roots, providing a constant reminder that our company is built on our rich history and heritage. The name Potomac Bank will replace ”BCT”, “Bank of Charles Town”, “The Community’s Bank” and other subsidiary names. Minor adjustments may be made to messaging, which is our usual practice of evolving with market changes.
Will BCT’s website’s address change?
Yes. On November 3, 2025, our website domain will become www.potomac.bank. But don’t worry. All BCT traffic (www.mybct.bank) will be redirected to our new domain. Be sure to bookmark the new address.
Do I need to notify my Direct Deposit sources (employer, Social Security, etc.) about the new name?
No. It is not necessary to notify employers, the Social Security Administration, or anyone sending a Direct Deposit to your account. Direct Deposits utilize our bank routing number and your account number to automatically deposit funds into your account. Neither the bank routing number nor your account number are changing.
