Who We Are
Potomac Bank is a special place. We have a culture, a special sauce, that is easy to taste but hard to explain. We are proud of our independence as an authentic community bank. We enjoy cultivating remarkable client experiences. We revere the vitality of tradition while embracing progress. We understand our success must include client and community successes. So, in an effort to define our special sauce, all of our employees came together in 2018 with a challenge to define our vision and explain what is the heart of Potomac Bank. Below is what our employees determined.
In 1871, a group comprised of 38 far-sighted Jefferson County, West Virginia farmers, orchardists, and business leaders saw the need for a bank to serve as a stabilizing influence in Jefferson County. Bank of Charles Town was founded. It was neighbor helping neighbor. It was that simple, and still is. The communities we serve are the communities we call home. We practice Neighbor Helping Neighbor.
We believe we're in a unique position to improve the well-being of businesses and individuals in our communities, and we are delighted in the opportunity to do so.
On November 3, 2025, Bank of Charles Town was renamed Potomac Bank, celebrating 154 years of expansion throughout the Potomac River region. We currently serve communities thorughout the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, Western Maryland, and Northern Virginia.
